The first time I attended a Young Agent event was at their conference in Frankenmuth in 2015 when my father, Dan, was President of the MAIA. I didn’t really know what to expect and did not know many of the agents that were in attendance besides my father and my sister, Kelly. What I did know was that I enjoyed my experience and had planned to attend the conference the following year.
In 2016, I attended the Young Agents Conference at Otsego. A whole year later and I was able to recognize a lot more faces and felt more comfortable networking with everyone. At the end of the 2016 conference, I was approached to join the Young Agents Committee. I was a little hesitant at first with the time commitment as I was getting married that fall, but was reassured that even though there was a time commitment the committee was there to help with whatever was needed if I was unavailable. Both Dan and Kelly agreed that it would be a great opportunity for me to get more involved outside of the agency, and they were right.
This will be my fourth year on the committee and the experience that I have had these last four years has been outstanding. Those on the committee, past and present, have come to be some of my close contacts for agency guidance and some have even become good friends of mine. Being among a group of young agents and aspiring leaders is a key motivator to always want to keep improving upon yourself and your agency.
The Michigan Young Agents do so many great things throughout the year within the Michigan community, including raising money for Insuring MI Future and the MI Future Foundation. Every year we put on a charity golf outing to raise money for these organizations in order to promote opportunities for young people to pursue careers in the insurance industry. Our outing this year was in September and it was a great success with a great turnout of 152 golfers! We look forward to organizing this event again next year!
We will be having more Young Agent events in 2020 so keep an eye out for updates from us! And if you see one of the committee members in your community, be sure to say hi! We would love to chat more with you about what we do at our Michigan Young Agent events and why we have fun doing it!
